Youth Inclusion in the Urban Environment (YIUE)
 Following the Towards Carfree Cities VII conference, World Carfree Network held a week-long international youth exchange in Istanbul, Turkey, under the title "Youth Inclusion in the Urban Environment" and funded by the Council of Europe's European Youth Foundation. It took place from 2-8 September 2007.
The exchange brought together young people, with the goal of facilitating youth participation and leadership in local decision-making and adapting the urban environment to promote social inclusion of young people across cultural boundaries. When young people have a voice in designing the urban environment, they will naturally retain a stake in it and work to improve it!
All of the 27 participants selected for the exchange (including the five members of the 'leadership team') were between the ages of 18 and 30 (at the time of the exchange) and a resident of one of the following countries: Armenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Russia, Serbia, Sweden and Turkey.
The exchange covered 70% of participants' travel costs (based on the set amounts in the travel budget section), and 100% of their food and accommodation expenses during the days of the exchange. Accommodation had been pre-arranged by the organisers, and was located at the Sultan Hostel, conveniently located in Sultanahmet (the historic centre of Istanbul).
In addition to the facilities at the hostel, parts of the exchange took place in the classrooms at Istanbul Technical University, in the Taksim district.

The youth exchange fell within the framework of the "All Different All Equal" campaign for diversity, human rights and participation, launched by the Council of Europe.
