Suggested agenda items to be added to current agenda: (October, 2007)

1. Starting Carfree Indy media (Justin)

2. SC member involvement with Network Projects (Sara)

3. Development of WCN Skill-Sharing on the internet (Giselle)

       a. How to spread critical mass rides -

       b. Help NGOs members develop their statutes -

       c. Helping activist to pass important laws...

4. Carbusters Magazine -- increasing distribution + discussing its role for the Network. Is Carbusters the "voice of the WCN"? (Sara)

16 January, 2009, from Todd Edelman from WCN-member Green Idea Factory:

5. Temporary removal of Markus Heller from the Advisory Board and his associated organisation from WCN membership.

What: AB member Markus Heller, plus WCN member org. Autofrei Wohnen should be removed from WCN at least until the next AGM.

Why: In mid-2008, Markus Heller/Autofrei Wohnen intentionally took advantage of the very weak financial situation of the WCN ICC and gave a donation for the specific use of continuing the employment of Justin Hyatt, whose poor performance since late in 2007 resulted in near unanimous complaints from his colleagues, but whose position was supported by Markus, among others,and possibly mainly by Markus.

In addition: The ICC coordinator and SC member Tanja Eskola later - but before Justin was eventually fired - regretted accepting the donation. Another ICC staffer, Chris Coleman, reported that ICC also requested for donation to be taken back but Markus refused. Moreover, a formal response from the SCC which I received in late 2008 did not acknowledge Tanya's criticism of the decision, and simply said it was a "grant". Finally, the donation was later described in a communication regarding Justin's firing without attribution, which - along with other actions and comments that indicated a desire to withhold info about the whole episode, in other words to not be fully transparent.

In closing: I request that Markus Heller and Autofrei Wohnen are removed from WCN - Meaning removal from members-only Lists or official internal communication, the ability to represent WCN, etc. - until the next AGM, when a full accounting of what transpired with this donation AND also Markus's role in keeping a severely and chronically under-performing staffer, Justin Hyatt, at the ICC. AGM participants would decide on any further measures.

20 January, 2009 from Todd Edelman from WCN-member Green Idea Factory:

6. Full disclosure to Members of Justin Hyatt's employment record and related ICC and SC decisions at WCN in relation to complaints about his work from ICC staff, WCN members and others. This is especially important as Justin was the main contact to Members. It should also be explained why Justin was allowed to keep a WCN email address even after he intentionally provided false information regarding his dismissal in a communication to members.

7. Full disclosure to Members of participation of Gabrielle Hermann and any other non-SC members in the hiring of Tanja Eskola.

8. Full disclosure to Members of current and past participation of all persons involved in an advisory capacity to SC, as far back as can be determined accurately. This will presumably include persons who were on SC Yahoo Groups list that were finally removed some months after the 2007 AGM.

9. Full disclosure to Members of problems of relationship of 2007 TCC conference organisers and WCN representatives.

10. Randall Ghent - Removal from Management Committee.

Randall Ghent shall be replaced as he has not physically worked in the ICC in over 18 months, and has little or no presence in Network fora for a long time, and also seems to not be involved in the TCC conference anymore. Candidates should be discussed and a decision made per statutes at next AGM. (This is not intended to be a comment on the quality of participation of Randall, only the quantity.)

11. Full disclosure of names of members of working group at 2008 AGM which considered proposal from Markus Heller and Joel Crawford that I, Todd Edelman, be removed from the Network. (This request has been made informally at least three times since the AGM).

12. Steering Committee meeting times and related - It would be great if SC could inform Members in advance about their exact Skype meeting times AND could also set a general deadline for comments, proposals etc to be discussed at the next meeting.

13. I propose that internal list used to send messages to Members be opened to use by Members for messages, information etc they feel is only appropriate for their fellow Members, rather than to entire WCN list, which contains many entities identified only by an email address. The content can be carfree- or WCN-related. (This request has been informally several times since late 2007).

21 January, 2009, from Markus Heller

I hope whoever reads Todd`s comments does not believe them. As far as I see they are based on wrong facts and, obviously, deep hate. It`s unbelievable to suggest that I took any personal advantages from the big donations to WCN, and it is bold to suggest that WCN is some kind of a mafia system (all this "Full disclosure" etc).

I - and I assume also the volunteering SC members and next AGM participants - don`t have fun to waste their time in answering such infamous accusations. Maybe our paid staff in the ICC finds the time to correct this trash.

It`s not the first time that Todd tries to bring distrust into the network, and it`s not his first accusations against members. Indeed, here is a new peak of real malice. I am curious how long the network wants to tolerate this.

10. Where is SC member Rajendra Ravi? He was not a participant in TCFC 2008 decision, about two months ago. (Todd Edelman, Green Idea Factory, 23 April)

Previous communication related suggestions, 1 and 2 below by Todd Edelman, Green Idea Factory, made in Feb. or March 2007 and updated in April

1. Propose a system for discussion on Network fora before the 2007 AGM and approval at the 2007 AGM to create more transparency and LIVEliness in the activities of Steering Committee. To be there for the Network. This means a:

  • Record viewable by WCN members of who "shows up" at various SC meetings and notes about every meeting (rather than just a "quarterly" report);

  • At least one thoughtful contribution from each SC member to WCN fora once per month - that is to engage WCN members as is required in Statutes ;

  • Not speaking only through one SC member;

  • Responding to EVERY reasonable email from WCN members;

  • Trying your best to respond to every reasonable email from members of various fora, members of Autoholics Anonymous, etc.;

  • Being pro-active with press;

ALSO:

  • Creating an active AB, or at least a passive one (rather than just a non-responsive or non-informed one). I STRONGLY object to these people just being pretty faces. I STRONGLY object to there being no clear, robust and guaranteed mechanism to contact them. I would rather have only a few AB who will be involved then a facade to impress people, e.g. funders, as is the case with SC as well. To put it another way, because the text about the AB and the SC on the website is a gross exaggeration, all applications which refer to it are, frankly, less solid;

  • Do not, never ever, not once say that you are too busy. Do the SC gig or do not;

  • Make it VERY clear to WCN members and fora members that you need their energy to do your job. They are the sun, you are the solar panels, and if both of you want cold beer the fridge needs some juice;

  • Determine if you need help to do what a group like the SC should or could do (I dont mean how SC is currently defined in Statutes). This means various sub-committees on specific issues (membership, publishing, communications, cross-sector collaboration, ethical issues...) AND if to make this possible it will be a requirement for EVERY WCN member to participate in a committee (The 1.2 million people who die on the roads of the world every year certainly support this. They are watching us, you know);

  • Related to that, cast away the ridiculous idea of just having passive members who only provide a name on the website, get a magazine, pay a little bit of money (if that). This WAR is too serious to waste time on groups and people who dont want to truly embrace being part of a global network;

  • Ask yourselves why it is difficult to honestly admit your current failings on the Network list or other fora. Is it because the list is too public (i.e. you dont know who anyone is)? What is the reason?;

  • Ask yourselves why the majority of the text on the SC part of the members-only pages is written by the former grantwriter (the strategy stuff);

  • Do a member survey to see who can name more than a few of you without prompting (this relates to many of the points above).

2 - Post to the list a paragraph by each and every SC member to say how they reached a decision on siting of TCFC in 2008.
