A fundraising brainstorm produced the following ideas and comments:

  • Grant writing
  • Sponsorship: individuals, companies. Could ask members to sponsor website (like carfree.com).
  • Advertising: web, magazine. Could be successful if we get a high Google search ranking. Majority supported the idea.
  • Working with other NGOs: sharing grant funding and cooperating in training seminars. EC likes cross-border training and knowledge dissemination events.
  • Benefit parties/fundraising events: member orgs could do these to raise money for WCN. Relies on people giving up their spare time, so helps if event is fun. Orgs and individuals can sell WCN Resource Centre items to boost our income.
  • Retaining and increasing members: personal contact required. This is ongoing.
  • Better resource/magazine distribution and increased circulation. Carbusters distribution plans have failed in the past. Is Resource centre cost-effective?
  • Better marketing
  • Donation campaigns for specific projects e.g. sms fundraising
  • Outreach: online
  • Consulting i.e. selling our knowledge. Could involve other orgs, develop lists of experts, carfree speakers, etc. Make use of Advisory Board. We should try to be listed by ICLEI, T&E, Global Alliance for Ecomobility
  • Specific foundations
  • External seminars: WCN offering advice and training to others. Would need to develop our capacity.
