Grassroots Capacity Building Seminar in Prague, November 4–6, 2009
 3E by WCNE is a capacity building seminar for European NGO's to equip, encourage and empower citizens to take a more active role in both their local and global communities. This 3-day seminar consisting of capacity building, workshops, presentations and facilitated discussions takes place in Prague, Czech Republic in November 4. – 6. followed by the Network’s the Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2009 and network development on November 7. – 8.
The aim of the seminar is to promote grassroots groups’ active involvement in public discussions and local decision-making; to facilitate information exchange between NGO leaders; to increase the skills of the people involved in NGOs; and to foster intercultural cooperation in Europe and in CEE region in particular.
Here at World Carfree Network we believe that the work of grassroots groups is critically important to the involvement of citizens in a democratic society. Grassroots NGOs and other civil society actors have a key role in the awareness raising and in the active engagement of citizens in addition to - or as oppose to - the states’, municipalities’ and the commercial institutions’ undertakings in our modern society. Yet, many organizations, particularly in economically disadvantaged areas of Europe, are underdeveloped in their capacity and struggle with sustainable financing of projects and campaign & media strategies to involve and to actively engage their communities.
Our seminar brings together NGO actives and activist around Europe to study and develop strategies for strengthening grassroots operations and fostering cooperation across cultural boundaries with the aims of equipping, encouraging and empowering them to promote public participation and active citizenship.
We strive towards bringing together people from diverse European cultures providing natural opportunities for cooperation and information exchange between groups and individuals who are often at odds in the urban setting by developing skills and opportunities for them to monitor and participate fully in urban and transport policy and public debates at the local and international level.
